Hi Everyone. This is Mayor Mike Cahill with a Friday evening update. I hope you are doing well and looking forward to a relaxing weekend. I have two points to share with you tonight. First, there have been reports of phone scams. Callers claiming to be COVID-19 contact tracers and asking people to give out personal information like social security numbers and credit card numbers. Please know that real contact tracers will never ask for money or your social security number. Individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 should receive a call within a few days of their test date from a Beverly Public Health Nurse, who will identify themself as such. The nurse may ask to confirm an address or other demographic information but will never ask for money or your social security number. When asking about close contacts, the nurse will ask for names, addresses and date of birth. If the state’s Community Tracing Collaborative (CTC) calls you, the phone number prefix will be either 833 or 857 and the call will say MA COVID Team. If an individual has recently been tested for COVID-19, please expect and answer the phone call. Second, with the weekend upon us, we are doing well in fighting the novel coronavirus. More of our community is open, more of the summertime things we enjoy are currently available to us. Hospitalization rates are down. And yet the virus is still here - and it’s still dangerous. And our best defense is still to keep our distance, wear face coverings, and wash our hands. So please keep your distance, and wear your face covering at all times when you are inside - in restaurants, stores, etc. - and outside when you come closer than six feet to others. If you plan to come to any of the city’s parks and beaches this weekend, bring your face covering with you – you’ll need it. Face coverings and masks keep both you and me safer. In so many ways, the people of Beverly care for and help each other. So let’s please keep our focus now on beating this virus; let’s keep each other safe this summer. Thank you, All. Be well.
