The Accounting Office is headed by the City Accountant and is responsible for:
Maintenance of the general ledger and all accounting records of the City across 560-plus City funds
The preparation of all payrolls (city, school and retirees) for approximately 1,900 current and former employees and maintenance of all withholding records
Coordination and preparation of warrants for the payment of all bills for all City funds
Internal auditing of all records and offices of the City
Reconciliation of all accounts including cash accounts on a regular basis
External reporting as required by the federal and state government and their agencies
