The MSW, LCSW Social Worker will work with older adults and families to address the social, emotional, and physical (medical) problems of aging that may impact an individual’s ability to participate in Senior Center programs and activities.  In addition, the MSW, LCSW Social Worker will respond to crises and complicated situations that come to the attention of Senior Center Staff and will work with community partners – police, fire, Seniorcare, Inc. and others to assess problems and seek resolution.




  • Evaluate the health and safety of senior participants who are identified by staff as an elder in need of services and/or by reviewing “incident reports” and “clients of concern” reports filed with the Director or Assistant Director.  In consultation with Director or Assistant Director Follow-up on those designated “high risk.”
  • Develop and implement a plan to address the concerns noted in reports filed by staff including: arranging family meetings, developing service plans, coordinating services with community agencies and providing follow-up on chronic concerns and complaints about individual seniors.
  • Respond to high-risk situations and crises that occur on site or in the community that could impact the well-being of the individual or the community.
  • File protective services report on elders at risk or in need of services with Seniorcare, Inc. as a mandated reporter of elders at risk.
  • Keep accurate notes of interactions with seniors and develop a follow-up plan for each elder who is identified as a high-risk client of concern.
  • Make home visits to elders identified as having a social service need involving community partners such as fire or police personnel as needed.


  • Support Senior Center staff in their efforts to manage difficult behaviors and situations that occur during the course of their work at the Senior Center and provide technical assistance and/or in-service training to staff and supervision as needed.
  • Facilitate, lead or make arrangements for support groups to meet the identified needs of elders in the community.
  • Participate in monthly meetings with Outreach staff to discuss clients of concern with the entire team.





  • Master’s degree in Social Work with current LCSW license in the Commonwealth of MA. LICSW preferred.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working with older adults and their families preferred.
  • Knowledge of the needs and interests of older adults.
  • Knowledge of resources and services available to at risk or frail seniors.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written fashion with a diverse constituency.
  • Able to represent the COA in the community in a professional and business like demeanor.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
