  1. Fees are based on the total value of construction (not on the cost) as determined by the building department
  2. For projects where a certificate of occupancy is required by the building code, the certificate of occupancy fee is included in building permit
  3. Work done without permit shall be double (2x) the original fee (max. additional fee $1,000)
  4. Fee is based on the value of the entire project, including trades.
  5. Construction costs are rounded to the next highest whole $1,000 (i.e. $10,200 = $11,000)

Sheet Metal Permit Fees

$12/$1,000 for 1 and 2-family dwellings, $15/$1,000 for other than 1 or 2 family dwellings (minimum fee: $65)

Plumbing and Gas Permit Fees

$10 per fixture or $65 (whichever is greater)

Reinspection fee if work not up to code ($50)

Fines: Any work started without obtaining a permit or proper notification to inspector shall be subject to permit fee being doubled.

Electrical Permit Fees

Certificate of insurance, workers’ compensation insurance affidavit and proof of licensure must be included with each application for permit to perform electrical work

$25.00/$1,000 of estimated cost of electrical work. Includes labor, equipment and materials

$10.00 per panel for solar installations. $1.00 per panel for all panels over 1000. Maximum fee $500 for 1 and 2-family dwellings (Solar fees revised 12/12/19).

  1. The inspector of wires shall approve all fees. Fees shall be made by check or money order
  2. Payments are non-refundable and non-transferable, except in the case of a contractor change
  3. Permits are void after one year
  4. Final cost affidavits shall be submitted prior to final inspections or electrical installations with fees $2,000 or greater
  5. The inspector of wires may use methods including, but not limited to, R.S. Means, other cost estimating publications, and/or signed contracts to confirm cost
  6. Work done without a permit shall be double (2X) the original fee

Refund Policy

Permit fees are payable at the time of application and are non-refundable, except as otherwise provided below. Permit fees cover the cost of administration, plan reviews and inspections.

Fees for permits issued are eligible for partial refund only under the following circumstances:

  • No work shall have taken place associated with the permit
  • Refunds may only be requested by and paid to the party that paid the fee
  • The request for a refund must be in writing or email and must provide cause as to why the permit is no longer required
  • Request must be made within 90 days of the date the permit was issued
  • Any decreased cost of construction resulting from the alteration of construction plans will not result in the refund of any amount of the paid permit fee

Application Fee: A $65 application fee will be deducted from all permit refunds

Review Fee: In addition to the $65 application fee, permits that require plan review and/or inter-office review (such as new structures, additions, alterations, decks, etc.) a 20% review fee will be deducted from the refund if the review has begunA full refund may be granted for any fee that was erroneously paid
