New Handicap Parking Access Aisle Bill
By Art Daignault
ADA Coordinator
There is a new law in Massachusetts that concerns handicap parking. Starting immediately, the diagonally striped area adjacent to the handicap parking space, is now part of the handicap space. This area is necessary for unloading passengers by allowing room to open doors fully and to lower wheelchairs from a lift on a passenger van. A person with or without a handicap placard cannot park in this diagonally striped area of the handicap space. If a person parks their vehicle in this area of the handicap parking space, they will be issued a $100.00 ticket for this violation by the Beverly Police Department.
